The Powerful Influence of Art and Photography

Last week, IFDA•NY held its February educational program at Swann Galleries with a panel discussion on the influence of art and photography on interior design and home furnishings.

Panelists Vicente Wolf and Daile Kaplan brought expertise from two different perspectives. As a leading interior designer, Wolf spoke about art as an educational tool that has informed his ideas about space, perspective and color palettes. Daile spoke from her expertise as an art curator, collector and appraiser, and discussed photography as one of the major trends in modern art collections.

If you weren’t able to make the event, we encourage you to watch the videos (links below) to hear Daile and Vincent share some of their insights. You can also visit the IFDA Facebook page to see photos.
Thank you to Swann Galleries for hosting the evening and to our 2012 IFDA NY Gold Sponsors 3MAmerican Hardwood Information CenterFortyOne Madison, HunterDouglas, New York Design Center; and our Silver Sponsors Benjamin Moore & Co., Resource Furniture for making our regular programming possible.
Please join IFDA•NY on Friday, March 23, from 12:30 – 1:30 pm at the Architectural Digest Home Show for an exploration of how the ways we live in and decorate our homes are expected to change in the coming decade. IFDA•NY and a panel of home and design industry insiders will explore the results of a survey of nearly 2,000 design and furnishings professionals and will discuss where the future of kitchen and bath, custom building and
 residential architecture will take us.

A world-renowned interior designer, Vicente Wolf discusses how art informs his design sensibilities. Vicente has been named one of the ten most influential designers in the United States by House Beautiful and has been inducted into the Designer Hall of Fame by Interior Design Magazine. Wolf has been at the top of the Manhattan design industry for over 35 years.

Daile Kaplan, VP and Director of Photographs at Swann Auction Galleries, discusses recent trends in fine art photography.  Daile is a photographs specialist on Antiques Roadshow, and has taped segments about photography for HGTV, the Discovery Channel and the History Channel.  She is an author, independent curator and collector, and sits on the board of the Appraisers Association of America.
