We created this blog post to increase awareness of the attributes and contributions of this illustrious member who was taken from us too soon. After a long and courageous battle with Breast Cancer, Valerie died on June 26, 2014. Valerie Moran, FIFDA, continues to inspire IFDA members through her Valerie Moran Memorial Grant which is sponsored by the IFDA NY chapter. Established in memory as an innovator, designer, merchandiser, and business leader. The grant is awarded to innovative IFDA professional members interested in expanding their horizons through travel, trade shows, and professional development studies.

About Valerie

Valerie Moran was born in
Warsaw, New York on December 27, 1958. She had a long and prolific career in
the home furnishing industry in many capacities, as well as working as a
residential and commercial interior designer. In 1985, she began her work with Grange Furniture, the
France-based, global luxury home company and held a longtime affiliation
with Grange, rising to the position of CEO North America. She also served for a
short period as chairman of B&B
Italia, America. In later years she consulted on
product development, business strategy, marketing and merchandising for several
brands, and gave seminars nationally and internationally.
Valerie served as
chairman of the Advisory Board for Furnish-A-Future, Partnership for
the Homeless which helps
at-risk families who are emerging from shelters to obtain furnishings and
household goods for their new homes. She was a member of Fashion Group International, theFrench-American Chamber of Commerce, Color Marketing Group, the American Society of Interior Design, Withit, National Kitchen and Bath
Association, and theInternational Furnishings and
Design Association, having served as president of the New York
Chapter and as chairman of the Past President Council.
Valerie was the recipient
of numerous industry awards, including the SPEC and ROSCOE awards, and
was honored as a member of Metropolitan Home’s Design 100. She was
honored as the IFDA NY (International Furniture and Design Association New York)
1998 “Circle of Excellence” winner for Marketing, Sales and Research as well.
She was a mentor to many of the future leaders of our industry.
Valerie Moran was remembered
by the New York Design Center community
in 2014 during a special event. Industry friends gathered for a
small ceremony honoring Moran at the Grange Furniture showroom, where friends
and colleagues including President of the New York Design Center James Druckman spoke
